Volunteers

Volunteer at the Donald Berman Jewish Eldercare Centre

Volunteers play an important role at our Centre, helping improve the quality of life and emotional well-being of our residents in a very meaningful way.

Our volunteers devoted almost 15,000 hours of their time during the past year, and are involved in various areas of the Centre. For many of our residents, the volunteer becomes an important link to the outside world, and helps enhance the residents’ feelings of self-esteem.

The compassion and commitment of our volunteers makes a major difference in the lives of our residents. We salute and thank the hundreds of volunteers who have selflessly given their time for the benefit of our residents.

Many of our volunteers say that they receive a great deal of satisfaction from helping the frail elderly. Being appreciated is foremost on their list of personal rewards, and our residents’ smiles and hugs always produce new feelings of satisfaction.

Friendships develop, and returning each week becomes something very special to look forward to.

Volunteer opportunities are available at our Centre every day of the week, including weekends. Most require a commitment for a specific period of time each week, starting with as little as one hour.

Typical volunteer opportunities include:

  • Friendly visits
  • Assisting during recreational and cultural activities
  • Special events and holiday programs
  • Group outings and BBQs during the summer months
  • Special skills such as music and art are also highly beneficial, in order to offer special activities for groups of residents.
